Google Classroom

St Joseph’s uses Google Classroom for homework and remote learning. This world-leading learning platform creates a virtual classroom environment for students and teachers to connect remotely, no matter where they are.

The suite of features includes a range of document tools that can enable children to produce and submit work in a variety of formats, while Google Meet enables teachers to securely video conference with their class to provide live teaching.

Students can ask questions and receive feedback quickly and safely directly from their teachers, and every child has a unique account that shows teachers their progress and work.

Google Classroom is, most importantly, secure. Only children who are part of the class have permission to access learning and video calls, meaning our children are safeguarded while learning from home.

The platform can be access from a desktop, laptop or smart device (such as a phone or tablet), making it accessible to most.

Google Meet rules

It's important that we all play our part to make classes run smoothly. All children must follow these rules during Google Meets:

Logging on to Google Classroom

All children have had lessons on accessing and using Google Classroom, but if you are experiencing issues logging in at home, please follow this guide for extra help:

Common issues with Google Classroom

  • Make sure you are logged out of your personal Google account before trying to log into your child's classroom. If you use Google Chrome as a browser, you will need to log out of your account.
  • If you log into Google Classroom using a smart device (such as a tablet or smart phone), you may need to download the Google Suite software to access the full platform. You may need to download Google Meet and Google Docs. These are free and available on all mainstream app stores.
  • If you are accessing a Meet via a smart device, you may be asked for a Meet code. You can get this from your class teacher. This will never change, and can be used for every Meet.
  • Meets will not be live until a member of staff is available to host and monitor the conference call. If the link is not live immediately when you logon, it will go live about 5 minutes before the Meet starts.
