 Mass in remembrance of our Friends, Shannon and Shane and Blessing of the new Prayer Garden.

Today we celebrated mass in the church in remembrance of our friends Shannon and Shane. We celebrated with hymns and dance, before moving outside where Fr Durcan blessed our new Prayer Garden dedicated to their memory.

 Mass for Mrs Pearce

On Tuesday 27th December, We held a mass for Mrs Pearce who after 24 years of working here at St Joseph's is moving to become Chaplin at St Wilfrid's. We wish her all the best in the future.

Year Six Retreat - Ampleforth Abbey

Year 6 took part in a three day retreat at Ampleforth Abbey in North Yorkshire. During their time there, the children took time out to reflect on their own lives, their time at St Joseph's and looking ahead to their final Year at our school.

They had the opportunity to tour the Abbey and have one of the Abbeys monks answer questions about religious life.

The overall theme was 'Let your light shine' and the children took part in many games and reflections to explore this idea.


Remembrance Service

Today, our country stops to remember the sacrifice that people have made for their country during times of war. We also take the opportunity to pray for peace in our world, knowing that God has called us to love everyone.

Each class made their own poppy wreath to lay as part of our service.

Multi-Cultural Week

In school this week, we have been learning about other cultures and faiths that people follow, comparing them to our own British culture and looking at the similarities and differences between our Catholic faith and the faiths of other people around the world.

The week finished with a Workshop day, where we moved around each class, looking at different aspects of other religions and our own.CM

Whole School Mass to give thanks for the Harvest

Today, we had mass in school, giving thanks to God for the harvest that he produces for us. As part of our Harvest week, we collected different goods and produce, which Fr Durcan blessed for us before our Year 6 children took harvest parcels out to the sick and housebound of our parish.

The Great St Joseph's Bake Off

As part of our Harvest week, we held our 3rd annual Bake Off. Each class made buns to sell throughout the week and even the parents made cakes for the competition. All the buns and cakes were sold with the money raised going to support CAFOD.

All together we managed to raise £316.50. Thank you to everyone who took the time to bake and sent money in to buy the buns and cakes.

Whole School Mass for the Solemnity of All Saints

Today, we went over to St Joseph's church to celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints. We gave thanks for all the saints, known and unknown who pray to God directly for us and asked for God's help to live the life of a saint.

Holy Month of the Rosary

To acknowledge Mary and the Holy Month of the Rosary, our school sent home a travelling Rosary Bag for each child to use at home one evening during October.

Each bag contained a set of rosary beads, a candle, a book explaining the rosary and a prayer book to share their own personal prayer intentions.

Thank you to all our families who have supported our school and their children with praying the rosary during October.

BKCAT Big Sing Liturgy Thing

In October, across the BKCAT, all the Year 6 children came together at St Thomas a Becket High School to take part in the Big Sing Liturgy Thing, led by CJM Music and More Than Dance.

Children spent the morning learning a range of new liturgical songs and actions before sharing lunch with children from other schools.

The day ended with the Year 6 children taking part in and leading parts of a collective worship involving music dance and scripture.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Our Mini Vinnies supported the work of Macmillan Cancer Research today by hosting their own coffee morning, raising over £100 for the charity.

Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to Ripon

Continuing our Year of Mercy celebrations, our school joined with our neighbouring school, St John the Baptist Normanton, to attend Mass with Bishop Marcus to celebrate our dioceses patron saints during this Year of Mercy. All the children were very well behaved and participated excellently in the events.

New Starters Service

Today, we invited our Foundation children to join the rest of the school for a special assembly to welcome them into the St Joseph's School family. Each Foundation child was partnered with their Year 6 buddy who will act as a role model to them this year. Each child brought forward a candle which was lit to show how the light of Jesus is present in them in our school.

Mini Vinnie Service in Leeds Cathedral

In September, our new Mini Vinnie volunteers travelled to Leeds Cathedral for a special service led by Bishop Marcus. During the service, the Bishop explained to the children the importance of their work helping God by helping others.

Whole School Mass for the New Academic Year

Today, we went over to St Joseph's church to give thanks for our education and to celebrate the new academic year. Father Durcan gave our school and all its community a blessing for our new year.
