End of Year & Class of 2016 Mass and Celebration Assembly

We joined with parents and parishioners in our church on Friday to celebrate the end of another academic year and the celebrate the successes of our Year 6, the class of 2016. We once again thank Fr Simon for saying mass with us and giving the Year 6 children excellent advice in his homily.
Year 6 More Than Dance performance
Wednesday 20th July 2016
Kevin and Danielle from More Than Dance once again joined our school to prepare Year 6 for their end of year liturgical dance recital. Over 2 days, they taught the children a range of dance routines as well as running workshops about moving on and keeping in touch with God. The performance for parents on Wednesday was fantastic and all the children should be rightly proud.
Jubilee Year of Mercy Mass at Leeds Cathedral and Picnic at Roundhay Park.

On Tuesday, our whole school embarked on a visit to Leeds Cathedral to celebrate the Jubilee year of Mercy. Mass was said by the Bishop with singing, reading and serving by the children.Following Mass, we all went to Roundhay Park to have a picnic and play games.

Sikh Culture Experience Workshops

BKCAT Charity Presentations

It's that time of year again where the children select the BKCAT charity for the coming year. Last year's winners St Joseph's Moorthorpe hosted the event, sharing the fantastic news that we had raised over £15,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
During the morning, each school in the trust was able to present their own charity for consideration before the children of each school voted on the next charity to receive our support. Our school chose the Cystic Fibrosis Trust because the children wanted to support a charity that would help someone within our own school community. The children's hard work with the presentation paid off as our school won the charity presentations and will lead the BKCAT in 2016-17 in raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Look out for upcoming fundraising events.
Concert to celebrate Fr Durcan's Golden Jubilee

On the 19th June 2016, Canon Durcan passed a great milestone in his ministry as a priest, 50 Years. To celebrate this as a school, each class rehearsed a song to present to him in a special concert held in school in his honour.

Year 6 Transition Day at St Wilfrid's

Our Year 6 children visited their Secondary School for September today. They visited different departments, learnt which Form Group their were in and made loads of new friends.

Leeds Trinity Concert

A group of children from our school joined with other from across the region at Leeds Trinity University to perform as a choir inside the University Chapel. All the children did a fabulous job at representing the school and sang brilliantly.
Leeds Cathedral Music Service workshop

In preparation for our Mass at Leeds Cathedral in July, Mr Leach from the Leeds Cathedral Music Service visited our school to teach us a range on new and difficult hymns and mass chants.
We will definitely be working extra hard over the next few weeks to practice what he has taught us today.
Queens Birthday Celebration

BKCAT More Than Dance performance

Year 6 children from across the BKCAT joined together at Ss Peter & Paul Church in Wakefield for the Annual BKCAT Liturgical Dance performance. All the children worked hard over the two days to ensure they produced a perfect and respectful performance. Well done everyone
Good Shepherd Service

The annual Good Shepherd Service arranged by Catholic Care is an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic fundraising work that each school does each year during Lent for Catholic Care. This year, we gave a card to Bishop Marcus letting him know that as a school we had managed to raise an amazing £666.99. Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising.
BKCAT Charity Fun Run

In our continuing efforts to support this years BKCAT Charity, our Year 4 and 5 children joined with the other Year 4 and 5's from across the BKCAT to take part in a Charity Fun Run. Everyone had a great time and manged to complete their lap of the course.
Back at school, the other classes dressed in yellow (the colour of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance) and completed their own sponsored run in school. Well done to everyone who has helped to support this charity so far this year.
BKCAT Eastertide Choir Concert

Four of our children joined others from across the BKCAT this evening to celebrate Jesus' resurrection at Easter through song. They worked hard all afternoon rehearsing, before performing a a choir to their parents and guests. Well done children.
St Joseph's Day: Mass to celebrate the Solemnity of St Joseph, Husband of Mary.

We went to church today to celebrate the Mass for our patron saint. Although the solemnity this year is on a Saturday, we celebrate a day early on Friday as a whole school community. The children sang the hymns for St Joseph excellently and our readers and servers did an excellent job too.
In the afternoon, each class ran activities to celebrate the life and work of St Joseph.
Stations of the Cross
Thursday 17th March 2016
Today, Year 5 led the whole school in a Stations of the Cross liturgy. Moving around the school site, groups of children shared the story of Jesus' Passion through word and picture, taking time to reflect on what the story means to us. Thank you Year 5 for leading us in such a respectful and prayerful way.
BKCAT Lent Arts and Crafts

Four children from Year 5 travelled to St Thomas a Becket High School to take part in an arts and crafts workshop. Using clay, our children were able to make some tiles depicting different stations of the cross. Well done children.
School Mass for the Newman Family

Earlier this year, we lost two members of our school community, Shannon and Shane. Today, we attended Mass as a whole community to celebrate their lives and to pray for them, their families and friends.
Afterwards, we released balloons as a way of remembering the happy times we spent together.
Lent Parent Reflections

Lent More Than Dance Workshops

During the day, each class learnt and different routine which when performed together at the end of the day help share the message of Lent being a time of preparation for Jesus' rising at Easter.

BKCAT Family Themed Week

All week, across the BKCAT school we will be having a focused theme week on the Family. Each day we will be holding assemblies and lessons which will help to teach the children about the value of family and what it means to be part of a family, whether at home or school or even God's family.
Raising Money for the British Heart Foundation

Today in school we have worn red to raise money to support the British Heart Foundation, a charity which has supported families within our school. Thank you to everyone who donated money to this cause.
Friday 18th December 2015
Year 6 led us in our schools final act of preparation for Jesus' birth today. The Christingle service. The children taught us about the meaning of the christingle and shared with us the story of Jesus' Nativity. Well done to all the children who sang the carols so well.

Junior Advent Productions

This year's production was titled The Apprentice and was based around the story of an apprentice carpenter in Bethlehem who is called upon to save the day several time by fixing and making things for the baby Jesus.

Four children from year 4 have been to St Joseph's Pontefract to take part in the BKCAT Advent preparation workshop. The children have made a few different things, including an advent wreath.

We held this years remembrance service in church. After singing some hymns and listening to a reflection, we held a minutes silence before praying for an end to wars and peace in our world.
Multi-Faith / Multi-Cultural Week

This week we have been taking time out to explore different faiths and cultures. On Monday, we held an assembly discussing our place in God's World.
On Tuesday, all the children in our school took part in workshops with members of the Zulu Nation, exploring their culture and comparing it to our own.
On Thursday, the children moved around the school taking part in teacher led workshops focusing on different world religions.

Mass in Remembrance of Beverly Sice

Earlier this year, our former chair of governors, Mrs Beverly Sice passed away. Today in church, our school community offered a Mass to pray for the repose of her soul and for the comfort of her family and friends.
Year 6 Residential to Myddelton Grange

Year 6 have been in Ilkley this week taking part in their three day retreat to Myddelton Grange. The children have spent time walking, playing games and reflecting upon their time at St Joseph's and their move to high school next year. The residential was rounded off with a lovely mass prepared by our Year 6 children.
Harvest Festival and Mass

Today we have held our annual harvest mass, giving thanks to God for his wonderful creation and his care for us. Thank you to everyone who donated harvest produce to be shared. Our Year 6 children took these gifts out to people in our parish and to the local food bank.

This year's BKCAT Academy Mass was held at the Sacred Heart church in Hemsworth and celebrated by Bishop Marcus. Three children from ours school joined others from across the trust to read, sing and dance to thank God for all his work and to celebrate our Catholic community in the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust.
