At St Joseph's, we follow the recommendations in ‘The Way the Truth and the Life’ regarding the teaching of Other Faiths from a Catholic perspective. In Key Stage 1 children focus on learning and consolidating the Catholic faith before learning about Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Judaism in Key Stage 2. Children need to be secure and comfortable in their own faith before they can go forward to appreciate and evaluate other faiths.
By the time children begin KS2 they should have some knowledge and a growing understanding of the Gospels and the practice and traditions of the Catholic faith. With this foundation in place, they can confidently learn about other religions and respect the truth and goodness inherent in them. Children will also be given the opportunity to learn about other cultures through their cross curricular topics in Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2 along with visits in school by different faith groups and out fo school in visits to religious buildings and communities.
